The Showcase Theatre Fair of Castilla y León was created for the purpose of constituting a focal point for the furtherance and dissemination of professional theatre, and each new edition has meant another step forward in the extension of its ability to attract all those people with an interest in programming or distributing the productions chosen to be held in our city, which every August becomes a site for interaction, communication and awareness regarding each season’s theatre offer.

Our Showcase Fair has an unwavering commitment as a venue for the promotion and exposure of the latest the stage has to offer, focusing especially on the work of contemporary authors and groups, yet it also seeks to ensure the continuance of classical theatre’s literary heritage, in whatever guise it might take. It places special attention on encouraging productions for young people and children, the theatre-goers of tomorrow, but it also makes a careful selection of the theatre for adults and new projects in street theatre and performances.

We also programme a whole series of Supplementary Activities, such as courses, exhibitions and workshops that enrich the experience in our city and make the most of this opportunity to instruct both visiting professionals and enthusiasts alike.

All kinds of theatre expressions from a whole host of sources are catered for in our programme, with the condition being that they feature innovation and quality.

This is Europe’s most western “market” in the dramatic arts, held in a frontier setting with a long history of exchange and a stunning array of monuments that can be used for staging today’s latest theatre productions.

From 22nd to 26th August 2006, Ciudad Rodrigo is to host the 9th edition of the Showcase Theatre Festival of Castilla y León, where once again a select programme will be presented in the most meticulous manner to both professionals and the public at large, witnesses as to how the most recent stage performances take over and transform these ancient stones.
