INVOLVEMENT WITH THE PERFORMING ARTS FIELD AND WITH THE TERRITORY

The 18th edition of the Theatre Fair of Castilla y León is taking place from 25th to 29th August in Ciudad Rodrigo, the Spanish town which hosts the event. This is one of the main meeting places for the performing arts field and becomes a great showcase that contributes to the dynamics of the performing arts market, especially in the Western part of the “Peninsula”.
 
This annual celebration is organized by the Government of Castilla y León, in cooperation with other operators in the field, both from the sellers viewpoint (companies, distributors, producers) and from the purchasers viewpoint (cultural operators, and other acknowledged professional profiles). The Department of Culture and Tourism backs this event with the aim of supporting the promotion, the broadcasting, the internationalization, the job creation and the stimulus of the cultural industries linked to the performing arts.

Doubtlessly, the Theatre Fair of Castilla y León would not be possible without the involvement of all those institutions and collaborative entities, without the audience attendance and without the creators, artists and technicians that find in Ciudad Rodrigo an important frame for their public introduction. Besides, it is important the involvement of more than two hundred professionals that every year come to this event with the motivation for knowing the latest theatre proposals and with the motivation for sharing a space of debate and training.

As we reach our “coming of age”, we can assert that a great part of our objectives are fully accomplished and that we still have a large amount of challenges to overcome. The Theatre Fair of Castilla y León is a solid, credited and worthwhile cultural project; it has a generic programming that encompasses every kind of performing format of every genre, and meant for every venue and sort of audience.

The creative diversity in terms of formats and origins is one of the most representative features of this Fair. In every edition there are almost forty shows selected among almost a thousand proposals, more than two hundred professionals are accredited, thirty different media cover the event and there is an audience of more than thirty thousand people.

This is a market (Fair) that becomes a party (Festival) of the latest performing arts productions; a third part of its programming is composed by shows outdoors and productions from Castilla y León, Extremadura and Portugal are specially welcomed (nonetheless, companies from other regions and countries are also programmed)
